Dr. M’s: Plz Advise

September 24, 2008

Do I need these in hot pink? (or yellow? to match my bike?)

[We can thank Nick Feeley for throwing a grunge party this weekend, therefore throwing me into a tizzy because I own no Docs at present.]

So I’m headed to NYC in about 4 hours – yipee! This is v. exciting to me as I feel like I haven’t been in like a year or something ridiculous. As luck would have it, Tyler and John were headed up there for a wedding this weekend anyway, so I get a sweet ride to the city and back. This does mean I’ll be forced to listen to a lot of bleeding vagina rock (ask Tyler about his tramp stamp!) on the way, but I think that’s a relatively small price to pay considering the fact that I will not be forced to take the Chinatown bus and sit next to some hairy weirdo that snores and smells like cheetos.

I think one of the biggest reasons that I haven’t been to New York in awhile is because - let’s be honest - if I’m gonna be there, I need money to spend. Not that I’m particularly rollin’ in that scrilla, but I have been somewhat frugal this month so I can afford a few new items - or 1/8 of something from here. So, this begs the question – when you only have one full day in the city, where do you go to shop?

A: Here.

O, Beacon’s Closet, you are, without a doubt, my favorite store in the upper 48. I can spend hours and hours in your glorious dusty warehouse and never get sick of the delightfully color-coded racks and entire room FULL of vintage dresses and skirts. You have provided me with so many amazing items throughout the years - those grey cowboy boots with hearts that I loved so much I wore them in the snow even when they had numerous holes in the soles; that pink sweater with a tie that I just always feel like wearing; those vintage white heels with little pastel circles that consistently look perfect with a 60’s style dress. And let’s not forget one of my most favorite things I’ve ever bought – the blue dress with red tulle that I wore in Colleen’s wedding. There are few things I’ve ever owned that I’ve felt better in than that piece. Here’s a pic of me wearing the beaut with two of my fav Brooklynites and one awesome Baltimorian:

Who knows what kind of special treasures await me this weekend – besides Rahel Ganin, that is.

I will purchase and report back – have a fantastic weekend everyone!

Betsey Johnson, Spring ‘08

I am SERIOUS.

MJ Spring ‘08

September 10, 2008

So it’s kindof ironic that only yesterday I was complaining to Jessie about how I am like so over MJ and a little sick of him, because at the same time in NYC, he turned out this deliciousness.

I am going to buy a mill metallic pencil skirts and plaid shirts now.

He just knew that I am a sucker for blue ‘n’ yellow, DIDN’T HE!?? This will go perfectly with the brand new BRIGHT BLUE EYESHADOW THAT I JUST PURCHASED. [per usual, just.don't.ask.]

Yesterday Liz and I walked all around town. We went to Smash and Meeps and then finally to Nana. There was actually nothing exciting there at all, but Liz did purchase a leather cleaner to get the spinach dip off of her bag. (Could she be any grosser? No. The answer is no.) Anyway, as she’s paying, I glance over at the dressing room. Someone comes out and gazes at herself.

That person is none other than MOTHERFUCKING LOUISA.

Yes. YES. YES!

I grab Liz’s arm. She looks confused. She thought I was commenting on the music they were playing. No, Liz. No. This is serious.

I whispered to her, “Louisa. Louisa is here.”

We laugh. Liz tells the salesgirl WE HAVE TO GO. And we rush.the.fuck.out.

Wardrobes united

September 7, 2008

I have returned to DC, and some amazing things have already happened:

-I shared Jessie’s place for a week. Bonus: sharing clothes. Only problem is that two wardrobes, one room equals this:

Obviously, things got out of hand.

- Jessie and I took an elevator trip with a young gent in dapper clothing. I was too busy checking out his slick-backed hair to notice his footwear, which Jessie immediately pointed out on his departure.

An engagement party later, Jessie and I were returning to our shared love nest. Who do we run into but the same young gent. I pick up after a second who he is, but it took Jessie a bit longer. She was too busy fending off his pickup attempts.

As he’s explaining how he lives in the same building to a confused little Jessie, she looks down and notices HIS CROCS AND LAUGHS AT THE DUDE.  Seems she did remember him, at least a part of him.

So Far?

-Maxi Dresses

-Purple

How do we feel about long dresses, btw? I used to wear long dresses a lot when I was more of a boho [e.g. circa age 14] and then I discovered that I am short and so have since not gone below the knee. I can say this much: I am not opposed to more purple in my wardrobe.
