do i or don’t i?

June 12, 2008

i will be the first to admit that i am a late bloomer in the wayfarer trend. however, i went ahead and boldly made a semi-spontaneous purchase at 10:45 am in the white flint bloomingdale’s. approximately one week ago i decided i was ready to spend half a paycheck on plastic eyewear, but the color choice was spontaneous. for whatever reason, the two-tone ones looked fine on me (or so myself and the salesgal tania thought) but the solid color ones just weren’t working out (perhaps i should’ve tried the tortoise shell?)

anyhow, i do like these black and red glasses, but do i have a long-standing future with such expensive, trendy, two-tone shades? is this a look best left to maia stern? i believe i can enjoy a single pair of wayfarers for some time to come, but i’m just not convinced that this pair is my pair – they just may be too much.

on a less puzzled-by-my-own-purchase note, i finally got myself some lovely brown sperrys. think what you want of boat shoes, but my inner prep says “YES!” loud and clear. i’m nearly positive my future life-partner wears old beat-up sperrys, so perhaps i’ll find him sooner if i walk the walk (in the shoes – nonetheless!)

…and, i got a new james perse dress. easily justified for its comfort, longevity and versatility…and it was 20% off (bloomie’s private sale thru the weekend – don’t forget!) i think it’ll be useful in israel, too. now i feel that it’s ok for me to use my $18 ripped mustard seed JP as a nightgown (not that i didn’t already).

…and lastly in my purchases during the last 24 hours, i bought two ‘environmentally friendly’ (so says the tag) shirts at mustard seed today, some brand ‘…….trinity’ that gayle is lovin’. they’re super light-weight, 70% cotton/30% silk (but machine washable!) so, thank you for the suggestions on organic fibers, i hope these work out well, and i hope they look good wrinkled. i must confess though, because they’re so sheer, i may or may not have bought two nikibiki tanks.

    I will say this:
I jumped on the wayfarer trend immediately by purchasing knockoffs. With my sunglass history? Anything over $12 will not do because it will immediately be broken/stolen by a sibling or friend. I got mine from fredflare.com and they come in a variety of colors and are only $10 and blah blah I know its the stuff of hip 10-year-old girls but I really do love that website.
I can’t pay too much for sunglasses; I am not responsible enough.

and always? that dress is a classic.

I am also in agreement that nice sunglasses won’t last a second in my life. Cheap ones? I could keep them for years. But as soon as they have some value, they’re goners.

So, I am thinking I should just have James Perse stocked in my closet. I am also thinking I need $347574 dollars to do that.
