Summer of the Romper

June 11, 2008

First, a G-Chat with Jessie circa February 2008:
1:31 PM Jess: okay
summer 08 is going to be the summer of the romper
1:32 PM im going to romp all over the place
me: no that was last summer
Jess: i realize im late
me: jess i literally own 8 rompers
truth be told, every summer from here on out is summer of the romper
Jess: i actually bought the cutest one last summer, silk with a motherfucking cherry print
me: AH!
Jess: i never wore it.
1:33 PM it would probably blow your mind a little
me: my mind is blown already
Jess: ROMP A LOMP
1:34 PM me: ROMP A LOMPA DINGDONG
Jess: HAHAHAH LOL
I have to say that for a one-piece-shorty-shorts bought-mostly-for-kitsch-value item of clothing, rompers have been surprisingly [or maybe not-so-surprisingly. Sigh.] present in my summer wardrobe. It used to be that I would throw one on when I was attending a party or a gay dance night, but this summer, probably prompted in equal parts by Jess’s declaration of Summer 2008 as Summer of the Romper and by the fact that it is hot as balls [sorry that you are missing out on the horror, Liz!], I have been wearing rompers more than dresses [and you all know how much I love to wear dresses!]. I have a great F21 purchase from two years ago that zips up and has a hood, I have a casual brown vintage sleeveless number that I like to use when I’m lounging around the house, but my favorite is a pseudo-vintage bathing suit that I acquired from LOUISA [!!!!!]. So, I think you all will be happy to know that her legacy lives on through me [as it should be]. Anyway, now that shorty shorts are back on the streets I am psyched to be able to wear rompers with regularity. My new goal? To find and wear a romper that is Office Lady appropriate! Wish me luck!
With that said, ladies, have you been romping?

:( I cannot romp because of my long torso paired with my aversion to cameltoe.

  2. liz Says:

Um, I am also in the potential cameltoe camp.

while some past and present mustard seed employees find it ha-larious to put lvl x items in gayle’s bin, i find it far more amusing to err to the side of caution and leave her with items that could potentially pass at things her employees would think she would like. today’s special treat was a gray silk twelfth street by cynthia vincent romper.

Geez, Elizabeth! You’re kind. Also, rompers on anyone over 30? Maybe pushing it. Maybe I say this because my body is not designed for rompers. Not.at.all.

Also, your post makes me miss the delicious finds at MS.
