Lunch Date: Oxfords
June 6, 2008
Ladies, I am psyched [and beyond!] to initiate Fashion Show at Lunch with its very first post. I have been thrifting like crazy [my 'hood is a haven for it, it seems] and so I have some truly Schwacky Schtuff that needs to be photographed and discussed. For now though, I have a simpler query regarding that Hot New Trend, Oxfords. [I also have several queries regarding ankle boots that I've discussed with Rahel, at least, at length.] While at Target scavenging over their delicious Jovovich-Hawk collection [never fear, I bought some gorgy items], I also happened upon some black patent oxfords.

Maybe the pic doesn’t do them justice? This pair of shoes is very cute and not as chee-looking as this photo may display. I have no probs wearing them for fall or winter- they look pretty adorbs with your run-of-the-mill opaque stocking. My question is: how do I translate this shit to summer? I’ve seen red carpet pics of B-list hipsters rocking the Ox-with-no-Sox Look- is this acceptable? Or do I put this shit away until September? If in fact I can rock this during the summertime, what do I wear these with?

gayle said you should retire them until the fall. as you know, i think you should retire them altogether. i just can’t help it – i’m still not a fan!

Yeaaaah… not so sure about the ox-with-no-sox look. Esp. on that girl, with that dress. Not acceptable for her.
I have this vision of these shoes in the summer with capris. Pleated capris. ’50s style. I dunno. I think I’m losing it. Also, I am living in the land of 50-degree weather, so I forget how it would feel to wear these with no socks in heat and humidity. Pretty gnarly, I’m sure.

What do we think about sneakily wearing them for a more dressed-up adventure with a black vintagey dress?
They remind me of the warrior sandals without the skin peeks.
Or am I cray?

i’m gonna put it out there.
i would sort of like to see you wear these with really short shorts with a crisp button down that’s tucked in – sort of sexy geeky cool.
and if anyone can pull this shit off, annie rebekah can.

[...] will be as adorbs as they are. Emily was just wearing this gorgy, hipper-than-hip outfit [WITH OXFORDS.] when she was at the supermarket, and I have a soft spot for Kenley’s rock-a-billy cool. [...]
